The first piece of wearable art I made is a necklace using Sue Miller's stamp, Keeper of the Forrest. I wanted to show how versatile these stamps are. This is a great project for children to do with parents (with supervision) because I used shrinky dinks! First I made the picture a bit larger and printed it out on shrinky dink paper that's made specifically for ink jet printing. Once I let the ink dry, I took Copic markers and Bic Mark-its and I colored it in. I used a Black Pitt Artist pen to re-outline the few parts that didn't print. Next, I punched a hole in the center near the top of the picture, tapped some corn starch on both sides and shrunk it using a heat gun (it can also be placed in the oven if you don't have a heat gun). I used a bamboo skewer to keep the hole open while it shrunk. Once the shrinky dink was cool, I took silver tape and wrapped it around the edges of the piece and added Glossy Accents. Once it was dry, I burnished the tape and added beads and voila - a beautiful necklace! Here are the steps and a picture of the final product.

For my next item I used the exact SAME stamp for two different pieces of art because I wanted to show you how a little imagination can go a LONG way! This stamp is called Princess Melis. The first item I did was a box. I used an inexpensive wooden round box and used a brush to apply a coat of Inkadinkado Royal Blue Spray which dyed the wood a beautiful blue. I then sized my Princess Melis and printed it on regular card stock paper. I used acrlic paints, Copic markers, star and butterfly embelleshments and added some flowers and vines with puffy paint on the bottom to add dimension and color. I used Ranger Stickles for added sparkle and added the sentiment which I live by..."I believe in God only I spell it N-A-T-U-R-E." Once everything was dry, I painted wooden thimble spools and glued them to the bottom of the box for the legs. Here are some pics of the work in progress.

My last project uses the same Princess Melis stamp but in a completely different way - Mixed Media. It is no surprise; I would LOVE to be a GYPSY! First, I started with a small canvas and covered it with torn out sheets from an old book. I used Liquitex Gel Medium to glue the sheets down. I then took my Inkadinkado Red and sprayed the ink all over the surface of the canvas. Next, I took sequins waste and put modeling paste on it in different areas and let it dry. I then added more accents using dusty lavander distress inks, gold rub n buff to create the finished background. I took the same print out of the Princess but this time I colored her hair in black with added glitter glue and red streaks for a totally different look! I printed out the words "Gypsy Woman" and used Glossy Accents to glue the words on....I LOVE her.....This project was inspired by someone whom I love who happens to live far, far away....The funny thing was, I was originally going to throw this second print away when it didn't turn out as I planned, but I then realized - it was meant for something completely different - this piece of art! I love saving money and I am sure this is not new out but i started doing this with my mixed media art to save money on stamps...so I decided to share my little bit...I took a foam sheet and drew and doodled on it...I love doing mixed media and layers and this is helpful. You can cut in small pieces or leave big...I used a ball point pen and drew hard....then I inked it up with my staz-on ink pad...or you could use a light layer of paint...turned it over on my sketch paper...it could be your canvas, wood or use fabric paint and do it on muslin! And you have a great print you made yourself!

I joined Facebook well over a year ago and kept hearing the name SuziBlu I did not know who or what a Suzi Blu was! As I started investigating, asking others about her and reading others posts and seeing their work, watched her youtube videos and I found out the most wonderful thing.... Suzi Blu was an Artist and a teacher of folk art! She was teaching Petite Dolls and I HAD to take the class. I am disabled and my hands are affected badly at times so I was very concerned about taking the class and the money, since I can't work and make money from selling my stuff. Her prices were great, you get to download and KEEP the videos, she critiques and helps you if you need it, has chats, gives you a list of the supplies and templates and I could go on and on... Well I have now taken 6 or 7 classes..I have lost count lol and each one is different and you learn new things and she is right...the more you practice the better you get! She also has a sewing group ran by Natalie Newman which is free and a journal group and a Be calm group and......Go join!!!!! She is doing a mermaids class, LA Sirena right now and she goes through color theory and backgrounds and drawing different faces and.....she has live paintcam and chats and the best thing is you can download it all and keep it! And she throws Gigi and Finney in there too.....If you ever want to ask a question about her or her classes...ask one of her students! We are everywhere and we all LOVE her!

I feel like an addict-A Chronic Illness Addict...

Hi-My name is Kelly and I am a Chronic Illness Addict! That is what I feel like. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, Fibromylagia, Chronic anemia, Chronic Migraines, Panic-Anxiety and Depression, Diabetes and Bleeding stomach ulcers. I am on enough medicine to kill a horse. It makes me not be able to focus, concentrate, remember things, sometimes not function. My hair falls out and the texture has changed. Then add pain pills which i dont do often because I have too much to do. I cant sleep, no matter how tired I am. They gave me a new migraine medicine that is like a paint gun that shoots the meds in you and leaves a hole...Oh the Joy! Art-Crafts-FB friends have inspired me to keep on keepin on -even on those bad days. I could go on and on about the pain 24/7 and struggles and so much more...I have had these things since I was 28 and I am now 40. Sometimes my hands dont work and I throw things, curse, yell and even cry. But the support I get from everyone I have met is amazing and I feel very Blessed. I wish I could Give it to God and have the faith and trust others do who also suffer, but that is not me. It is a struggle everyday to create jewelry, my art or whatever I am working on. But it saves me.....Art saves me every day......

I was asked to do a painting for a customer and to add her dog in. I was nervous at first because I am a Mixed Media Artist who does folk art. She had bought two paintings of mine before, so she knew my style. I finally finished it and sent it out to her. I am just waiting for her reaction! I sent her pics but they do not do the painting justice! I am really happy the way the dog came out! Okay, so I was seeing A LOT of stuff about 9/11 earlier.. and it really bothered me.

9/11 was one of the most horrific things ever to happen to America. And what I mean by this is simply this: people alive on September 11, 2001, who were not killed in the attack, will forever be haunted by the memory of the people who lost their lives, and the constant arguments started regarding that terrible day. And I say America not in the way it sounds. I mean it as in, we all learned and are learning about the holocaust, right? But we didn’t live through it… We will never know what it truly felt like to starve, to be killed for no reason. To see helpless people dying.
But when 9/11 happened, we, as a country, changed.
I will never say that the holocaust was worse than 9/11. And I will never say that 9/11 was worse than the holocaust. Just because I know if I do, arguments will begin.
What I will say, though, is that on September 11th, all of America felt hopeless. We all were confused, and lost, and were hurt beyond belief.
The thing that bothers me the most about all of this is the fact that I do not remember where I was when 9/11 happened. All I know is that I was kindergarten. I do not remember the reactions or ANYTHING having to do with the attack. All I know is what I learn and what I hear and what I see.
Every single day we see something that reminds us of 9/11. The war in Iraq, people being physically and emotionally abused because they are Muslim or are being called terrorists. All people of color, Spanish, Mexican, Iraqi, etc etc etc, being checked numerous times when they board a plane.
And what bothers me about all of this is not how ignorant America has become, as a country, towards other countries and other beliefs, but how people can sit back and say that they don’t care about 9/11. That they weren’t affected so why should they ever care about it?
And it truthfully is their opinion, and we all have freedom of speech, but in my opinion, I deeply and truthfully believe that that is exactly like saying the holocaust didn’t happen.
That so many lives were lost, and because it didn’t affect you in any shape, way or form, why should you care?
It makes me sick.
It really does.
I don’t remember a single thing from that day but everywhere I go I see ignorance. People hating other religions, beliefs, countries, JUST because of 9/11. People stating that they don’t care about the lives lost. People who prosecute others, point fingers at others, and abuse they’re freedom of speech.
It makes me sick to my stomach to think that I am surrounded by such VILE people every single day of my life.

this is a block i am doing as a quilt it has the four pandas...one of the easier ways to do it...i will finish the border and do some quilting on it. I made a traditional attic window quilt, it was a jungle theme with tigers, zebras and other animals, it was labor intensive but beautiful and i gave it as a gift and stupid me didnt take a pic first!!! lol :( but i am going to do another one with my dogs in the attic windows....so that will be fun and i def will take pics!

Watching Cool 2 Craft on Monday Lisa Fulmer from Lisa Liza Lou did a variation on a dresden plate block. It reminded me of how much I loved quilting and I remembered all the WIP's I have and things I would sit and do when I didnt want to do a whole quilt. Blocks are like ATC cards to me in a way...they inspire me, they are quick and you can try out new techniques! Here are a few pics of some things I started and I will post more tomorrow....these need quilted and I want to cut a heart out in the middle and stitch so the inside fabric shows.....you can probably tell I am also not a baker lol I hate measuring and sometimes I have to improvise because I get distracted while stitching or my hands are bad that day from the RA. So be nice please!! lolol

I love Art. ALL kinds of Art. I love to design and make Jewelry and Mixed Media Paintings and knit and..well you get the picture...lol but these little lovelies called Artist Trading Cards (ATC) are my favorite little pieces of inspiration. I find when I am blocked...creatively, of course, lol..if I sit and do an ATC card it helps the energy flow....opening me up, and the creative juics start flowing! I have been doing ATC's for about 5 years and even taught a clas on them. The options are endless on the kinds of cards you can do. Maybe I will video a few to show you all how easy it is...and then you too will fall in love with them! Here are just a few of ones I have done. These are the Love theme.

Suzi Blu saved my life!! I know..sounds dramatic but at a time in my life where I was so boxed in artistically and emotionally and suffering with Rheumatoid Arthritis and chronic pain...I joined Facebook and found Miss Suzi Blu! I took her class Petite Dolls and my life was transformed! I believe I am on my 5th class with her..and waiting patiently for her new Mermaids class. With a limited income and joint problems her classes work out so very well. You go at your own pace and she is very affordable and always available to help! Suzi is always trying new things and uniting us all as Artists so when I received her email challenging us to do a 4th of July Petite Doll and we would be entered into a raffle to win her Mermaids class...I jumped at the chance! I am no where near where I want to be creatively but with her instruction and my practicing daily...I am on my way! Thank you Suzi Blu!!!

Recycled Bottle Cap Pendant

I love finding new things to create with used items. Bottle caps are my new obsession and I have a few items I have been making with them. First is my Bottle Cap Pendant using Friendly Plastic. I was lucky enough to get some samples of Friendly Plastic from Linda Peterson. I have used it on a few projects previously and I really love the way it works with the bottle caps.

First, I tool 2 used bottle caps and washed them with warm soapy water and dried them well.

Then I hammered one out until it was flat and took pliers to the other one and bent out the sides.

I then took the bottle caps, laid them on a piece of wood and hammered a nail through the top. I will use this later to attach a jump ring.

On a heat proof surface I cut pieces of the Friendly Plastic in different shapes and colors.

I arranged a few pieces on the bottle cap and used my heat gun to heat them for 3 minutes. I continued to add more pieces and melted until I was happy with the colors and pattern.
I let it cool for 4-5 minutes, then I wet my finger and lightly pushed and blended the colors to my liking and made sure that everything was flat.
I let it cool for another 10 minutes and added Glossy Accents to give it a great gloss. I poked my nail through the hole again just to keep it open. I let it dry overnight and then I added a ribbon with some beads to finish it.

I recently joined a group on Facebook called Craft It Forward. It is a great group that you make 5 handmade items and send it to the first five lucky people who sign up for your goodies. I have signed up for a few and also have 5 of my own friends to send things to. I have met many people through this but one special girl has become a very close friend. Her name is Corinna. (I call her Coral lol) Her and I have WAY too much in common NOT to be friends! I am a big animal lover and I have fostered, rescued and re-homed a lot of animals over the last 10 years. I've also done a lot of work for my local shelter Animal Welfare Association and love to socialize and nurse the animals back to health so they can go to good homes. Since I have joined Facebook, another animal rescue has caught my attention. A Place to Bark. This rescue was founded by the amazing Bernie Berlin. Not only is she a super-talented artist, but she goes and rescues these animals and saves them from "Animal Death Row." It's her mission to end the senseless killing of animals in our nation's shelters. So many of these pets are killed when they are still able to be adopted out to live a wonderful life. I have seen her videos on Facebook, I read her blog and I follow her endless journey all over the country to pick up animals that need her help. Her video today, however struck me hard. You can view it here for yourself. She is an incredible woman and A Place to Bark really needs our donations! Even $5.00 can make a difference. Veggie Stacked Pita Pockets

Ingredients

1 (15-ounce) can chickpeas or white beans, rinsed and drained
1 to 2 tablespoons water
1/4 cup grated manchego or pecorino romano cheese
2 teaspoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 teaspoon kosher salt, plus more for seasoning
Pinch red pepper flakes
1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
Freshly ground black pepper
1/2 ripe Hass avocado, pitted and sliced
1 small cucumber, sliced or 1/2 bell pepper, seeded and sliced
10 to 12 whole-wheat pita minis (3 inches), lightly toasted

Directions

Combine the chickpeas, water, cheese, lemon juice, salt and red pepper flakes in a food processor and puree until completely smooth, about 5 minutes. While the motor is running, pour in the olive oil and process until fully incorporated and velvety. Season with pepper, to taste.

Spoon a scant tablespoon bean spread into toasted pitas. (Put remaining bean spread in an air-tight container.) Add avocado and cucumber slices, or other vegetables of choice and season, to taste, with salt and pepper. Wrap in parchment or butcher paper, and pack in a plastic container to keep from getting squished. Pack in a lunch box and send to school.

TIP: Remaining bean spread becomes a dip for vegetables or pita chips, or as another dimension layered in your child's favorite cold cut sandwich.

GREAT LOW FAT MAC AND CHEESE RECIPE FROM MARGOT POTTER!

Lo-Fat Whole Grain Classic Mac and Cheese
Copyright Margot Potter

Ingredients

Roux:
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons flour
1 teaspoon dry mustard

Sauce:
1 cup fat free 1/2 and 1/2
1 cup fat free milk
16 oz. 50% reduced fat cheddar

1 lb. Whole Wheat Pasta (read the packages and be sure you get a 100% wheat and not a blend.)

1. Boil pasta until it is past the al dente stage.

2. Create a roux by whisking butter and slowly integrating flour and mustard.

3. Warm the milk and 1/2 & 1/2 and whisk into roux mixture. Allow to thicken for several minutes.

4. Grate cheese and slowly stir into liquid, allowing cheese to melt.

5. Pour noodles into a 9x13 pan.

6. Pour cheese over noodles, allowing it to settle a bit and adding more until you've filled the cheese up to the edge of the pan.

7. Pour breadcrumbs over top of mac and cheese.

8. Place on a tray and bake in a 350 degree oven for 30 minutes, or until breadcrumbs and cheese begin to brown.

Variations: add lo fat goat cheese, feta or ricotta, chopped garlic, hot sauce, broccoli...

This sauce is delicious in omelettes or over steamed veggies!

Two Delicious Healthy Snacks! Mock Icecream desserts

I have been trying to eat better BUT my biggest problem is...SNACKS! I love sweet stuff especially ice cream! Here are two recipes I eat often and really help my sweet cravings!

Mock-Chocolate Shake
2 envelopes of sugar free hot chocolate
1/2-1 cup ice depending on how thick you want it
1/2-1 cup of skim milk depending on how thick you want it

Put all ingredients into Blender and MIX! Depending on how thin or thick you like it start with less milk and ice and add as it blends to your liking. You can also add a little sugar substitute if you want it sweeter.

Banana Soft Serve (I saw this on Rachel Ray)
PREP
Peel, Cut in 1 inch slices and freeze 3 Bananas

In your blender 1/4 cup whole milk and the frozen Bananas and Blend until smooth and creamy!
THAT IS IT! It is soooooo good! You can refreeze the icecream when done to harden the icecream up a little. You can also add a little Hershey Syrup (sugar free) to give it a chocolate twist!

Craft Tip - How to Age ATC Cards Quick and Easy!

I discovered this quick way to age or antique the ATC card I was working on. After I made my ATC card, I used Crackle Accent and painted it on all over the card and let it dry. THEN..to get color in all the great cracks and age it...I took a brown watercolor pencil and colored the whole card. Then, I wet a paint brush and proceeded to "paint" the card with water...Next, I took a cloth and wiped off the excess and where I wanted a darker look, I took my water color pencil and colored more! I did not have to use any other mediums and it only took me a minute! The best thing is you can use any color and I got cheap Watercolor pencils at AC Moore for $5.00 so I did not have to use my good ones!! Doesn't it look cool! I am very happy with how this came out!

I found a few patterns for fingerless glove patterns. I really like this one..it is very easy and uses straight needles!

Hand Like a Hole
Wrapped Stitch Wristers

Materials
1(1, 2) Balls Vickie Howell Collection’s ROCK (Shown in “Trent” gray and “Jeremy” yellow)
US Size 7 Needles
Tapestry Needle

Sizes

Unisex S (M, L)
Stretches to fit hand circumferences: 7” (8”, 9”)

Directions (Make 2)

CO 35 sts. Work in garter stitch for 3”(3 ½”, 4”).

Next row (RS): Knit 21(21, 19) sts, yo, k1 (twice), yo2, k1 (three times), yo3, k1 (4 times), yo4, k1 (5 times).

(WS): Knit all knit sts, drop all yos.

Work in garter stitch for 3”(3 ½”, 4”) more. BO.

Finishing

Fold in half length-wise and seam up.
